Outdoor Hammock Reviews

CHILLOUNGE Beach Outdoor Spreader Bar Hammock with Stand at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 265 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 6.7 Ft. x 4.7 Ft
  • Material: Polypropylene
  • Spreader Bar: Yes
  • Extras: FSC certified sustainable larch wood

The CHILLOUNGE Outdoor Hammock is wonderful if you and another are looking to improve your chill-out game. With a 265-pound capacity, fitting two people may be an issue with this one but you can probably exceed it somewhat with issue.

We have to admit that we’re suckers for a beautiful wooden hammock stand, and what sets this one apart is the construction, and style options.

Made of European larch wood, the wooden stand is about 10 feet long and pressure-treated to hold up against all kinds of weather. You only get one color wood to choose from, a natural Teak that will look beautiful on anyone’s patio.

The actual hammock bed also only comes with one option, a neutral beige color that will go with most any decor and gives a beautiful natural look against the wood frame.

The quilted polypropylene hammock bed really impressed us, its thick quilting that made it feel like you were floating on clouds. Despite this, it’s still quite durable and is also weather-and-fade-resistant.

Overall we just loved how beautiful this hammock was and if you are looking for the best outdoor hammock, look no further!

Sunnydaze Freestanding Outdoor Hammock With Stand

Sunnydaze Freestanding Outdoor Hammock at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 400 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 75” x 55”
  • Material: Acrylic, Polyester

If you’re serious about your level of comfort this summer, check out the Sunnydaze Hammock with Stand.

Be careful you don’t have anything to do when you lay down in this hammock, as falling asleep is almost guaranteed! Made of a weather-resistant acrylic/polyester combo, it’s perfect for leaving outside all season without any risk of damage.

The 12-foot portable steel stand and spreader bar are incredibly sturdy, making it great for both outdoor and indoor use. Plan on having this model for many summers to come!

A polyester sleeping pad combined with a complimentary pillow are luxurious and will lull you to sleep while you take in the fresh air.

Ideal for two people due to the 400-pound weight limit, you can also take a dog or small child up on the hammock with you as well.

Coming in a nice variety of summery patterns and sophisticated shades, it practically begs you to come and relax. The style is upscale, making it the perfect hammock to complement any patio furniture or backyard.

Ultimately, this is one of the best hammocks for sleeping out there. It’s durable, made of high-quality materials, is comfortable, and versatile. What more could you want?

Vivere Double Hammock at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 450 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 95” x 54”
  • Material: Polyester/Cotton
  • Spreader Bar: No
  • Extras: N/A

Relaxing in your own home is usually no problem. There are sofas, beds, and whatnot to keep you in a serene state. However, when you head outside, where do you turn?

The Vivere Double Hammock with Space Saving Steel Stand can save the day. Their signature stand expands up to 9 feet, providing supreme durability up to 450 pounds of body weight.

If you and your significant other or friend would like to share, this is the perfect model to do so.

As the best double hammock on the market currently, we weren’t surprised at its great level of comfort. The 100% cotton fabric which the actual swing is made of, is easy to clean and easy to transport.

However, if you prefer, you can also get their polyester model. While not as soft, it is fade-resistant, mildew resistant, and prevents rot.

If you’d like to take this on camping trips or picnics, the solid steel construction may have you thinking twice. Thanks to the mere 30-pound weight, there’s no reason to worry! We love taking it to the beach and watching the waves roll by!

Zupapa Outdoor Hammock With Stand at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 550 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 78” x 54”
  • Material: Polyester
  • Spreader Bar: Yes
  • Extras: Pillow

If we had to compare the Zupapa to any on our list, this free standing hammock has some of the highest ratings.

The weight capacity is similar to the others, at 550 pounds, so you can carelessly relax and let the stress melt away. An included pillow will give you and a partner a soft place to lay your heads, and at 12 feet long, it’s excellent for people of all heights.

One of the most difficult features to find in even the best backyard hammock, is durability. That’s a huge reason why we rated the Zupapa model so high.

The frame is comprised of heavy-duty 12-gauge steel with no bending or compromising under the weight of two people. With a weather-resistant powder coating, you don’t have to worry about rust, either.

While we would’ve liked to have seen more color options, the garnet red was one of the prettiest we’ve come across.

For the actual bed and pillow, they’re made of the same materials: 100% cotton, overlaying resin-treated 100% polyester fiber batting. That’s a mouthful, but essentially means it’s soft, yet can hold its own against sun and wind.

Sorbus Patio Hammock With Stand at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 500 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 76” x 36”
  • Material: 600D Polyester
  • Spreader Bar: Yes
  • Extras: Pillow, Magazine Pocket

Having a hammock to relax in whenever you feel like is something often underestimated. However, finding one of the best portable hammock stands on a budget can feel hopeless.

Thankfully, the Sorbus Hammock exists! This convenient little setup is perfect if you’re searching for a model that you can easily pick up and move from place-to-place.

With setup in under 30 seconds, it’s great for taking camping, or just for hanging out in the backyard. Our favorite way to use them is actually in cabins or tents.

If you love camping but don’t like the idea of sleeping on the literal ground, this can be a game-changer. The freestanding collapsible steel frame is durable, while being easy to transport with the included carry bag.

The 600D polyester swing is surprisingly durable, yet not the biggest out there. Despite this, the weight limit is quite substantial, at 300 pounds. This is actually more than many larger models offer, so this was nice to see.

Overall, it’s great for what it is, which is more of a hammock for traveling/camping. The design is nice enough, but probably wouldn’t look all that attractive in a backyard or patio.

Outsunny Backyard Outdoor Hammock with Canopy & Stand

Outsunny Backyard Outdoor Hammock at a Glance:

  • Weight Capacity: 395 Pounds
  • Hammock Bed Size: 79” x 53.5”
  • Material: Cotton/Polyester
  • Spreader Bar: Yes
  • Extras: Canopy

When it comes to hammocks, there’s no need to make things complicated. The Outsunny Wooden Curved Arc Hammock is a simple, straightforward design made of eco-friendly material.

The Larch wood stretcher bars and stand adds an elegant touch to any garden, yard, or outdoor area. The Outsunny, is unique with its built in canopy for shade and the ultimate in comfort!

The wood is treated with hypoallergenic/environmentally-friendly chemicals which make it resistant against the elements, so no need to worry about leaving it out.

The hammock itself unfortunately doesn’t come in many colors and patterns, but the cream shade that is available goes with anything, and looks classy.

The polyester cotton swing can accommodate those up to 6’5” in height, while still having a bit of wiggle room. The beautifully-constructed unit stands sturdily on its own, but combine that with the heavy-duty hanging loops and you have a 264-pound weight capacity.

The height is adjustable up to three feet, so if you’re not what most would consider “tall”, you can still easily hop on without worry of you falling out of it.

Considering everything, the price is actually quite reasonable. In addition, assembly of the Outsunny was one of the easiest experiences we’ve had. Overall, this was undoubtedly the best hammock with stand we’ve had the pleasure of coming across.

How to Choose Best Hammock With Stand – Buyers Guide

best patio hammock

Selecting the right product on our guide may be a bit difficult, considering you have to essentially decide on two separate things: the hammock, and the stand.

To help you out and narrow down your options, we decided to create the handy buying guide, below. It’s going to take you step-by-step through the process, and ensure you’re getting what’s right for you.

Stand

Let’s first address the part with more variables: the stand. As you saw, those above come in either wood or metal varieties so let’s break them down.

Wood

The most commonly-used wood (in our experience) for hammocks, is Russian/European Larch wood. It’s durable, relatively inexpensive, and with the right finish, looks gorgeous.

While it does come down to personal preference ultimately, the wood tends to have a more elegant feel and take your patio or backyard to a new level.

Also remember that these won’t rust at all, so as long as they have a weather treatment applied, you’re in the clear. These can last easily up to 10 years or more if properly taken care of.

Metal

Metal stands are much more common for a variety of reasons. A couple of major reasons why, is because they’re more portable, and they’re typically much cheaper. They’re made to be sturdy and stable, and can be assembled in just a few minutes.

Many can also be folded up or disassembled for easy transportation to the beach, campground, etc. which also makes for easy storage if you have a cold season where you live.

Technically metal does rust, but any that are worth purchasing are going to be powder-coated to prevent rust/weather damage. It’s not a rule, but metal stands can also typically hold more weight. Take the Best Choice Products hammock on our list, which can hold up to 500 pounds!

Fabric

We’ve covered the stand materials, now let’s move on to the fabric of the actual hammock. The two most commonly-used materials here are going to be cotton and polyester.

Cotton

Cotton is known for being soft, and we can attest to that with these models. Cotton is easy to clean, is comfortable, very lightweight, and breathable. In addition, it’s a natural product, which is better for the environment. However, cotton is more susceptible to fading under the sun, molding, and breaking down quicker.

Polyester

While polyester is a synthetic product and isn’t usually as soft as cotton, it does have its upsides. It’s much more resistant against weather and regular use. It’s very fade-and-mold resistant which means it’s perfect for outdoor use.

Blend

For us, the perfect hammock is made from a cotton/poly blend. That way you get the perfect balance of softness and weather resistance.

Comfort

best backyard hammockWe just went over how cotton is the standard in comfort, but there’s so much more to it than that. Some actually come with pads that can give you a bit of extra cushion rather than just a sheet.

Some even come with detachable pillows! This may seem like a small detail, but it really makes a bit difference in the experience and provides more support to your head and neck.

Size/Weight Capacity

Before you select a product, you must figure out who is going to be using the hammock, and make sure it fits them. Are you only buying for single use, or are you going to use it with another person? Depending on your answer, you’ll either look at single or double hammocks.

Also look at how tall/heavy you are, along with other people who may use it. Most on our guide can accommodate those 6’5” and under which arguably covers the vast majority of us.

We’d also advise you to not select a hammock which is just borderline going to accommodate the weight capacity you need. Go at least 50 pounds more than you think you’d require, to allow for your product to last longer, and in case your dog and kids happen to jump on you.

Spreader Bar

outdoor hammock spreader bar
Giantex 161″ Wooden Curved Arc Hammock Stand

This is the bar that runs horizontal to the hammock and keeps the hammock flat even when you lay on it. Hammocks with out this feature you will typically look like a “banana” as the hammock will enclose you.

A hammock with a spreader bar will typically be more comfortable and he better option especially if you will be laying in it with another person.

Versatility

Where will you be using your hammock? And do you want to have the ability to go from using it with the stand and using it suspended in-between a couple of trees? Some people like to have a choice.

While many stands out there can be folded up and taken with you, some don’t like the idea of having a huge stand on the beach or out camping and would prefer to sling it in-between a couple pine or palm trees.

That gives a more “authentic” experience, and that way you’re not lugging around a heavy metal/wooden stand.

Price

Finally, you’ll want to have a good idea of how much you’re willing to spend on your new hammock with stand. Get a really solid number in mind, and try not to go over it. This is to avoid any buyer’s remorse that may occur, even if you’re happy with the product.

So, what makes a hammock more expensive?

Looks, materials, durability, and comfort. The least expensive products may be comfortable and look nice, but they may not be as durable or made of the highest-quality materials.

Of course, it’s not a rule, but that’s often the case. If you’re able or willing to put out a bit more cash towards your hammock, you can have it all!

FAQs About Outdoor Hammock Stands

Q: Can I leave my hammock out in the snow during the winter?

A: This will depend on the material and model, but generally you can. However, we really recommend just taking it inside to a dry place. This will prolong the life of your hammock, greatly.

Q: Can I leave it out all summer?

A: Again, you technically can, but if you want to get the most out of your hammock, we recommend bringing it inside when you’re not using it.

Q: Do hammocks stretch at all?

A: Typically, they do, but it will depend on the material. Polyester is known to stretch very little, and will generally never stretch more than an inch or two with regular use. Cotton on the other hand, can stretch up to a couple of feet!

Q: If my hammock stretches and I’m closer to the ground than I want to be, how can I move it up higher again?

A: Simply move the chains on the end loops to tighten it. If this isn’t possible, this is a sign that it’s time for a brand new one!

Tips for Taking Care of Your Outdoor Hammock

#1: Properly clean your hammock regularly to prolong its life and keep it looking its best.

Clean spreader bars with a mild detergent and water in a tub, then air dry. For hammocks, you can use a scrub brush with mild detergent and water, then take a hose to it and let it air dry.

#2: If you don’t want to use your stand or trees, there are other hanging options.

You can try using 4×4 posts placed in the ground securely, or even hang it from two walls/buildings. Just make sure that the walls are stable (using a stud finder can help with this).

#3: Take proper safety precautions, especially when children are involved.

Never let them use it without an adult present, and definitely don’t let them play with it (jumping, spinning). In addition, always inspect it before sitting in it. Sometimes little animals or bugs like to hang out in there.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know just about everything you could ever want to about hammocks, which one will you be using this summer? We hope that our guide has helped you select the best hammock with stand for you! Thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you again soon! Happy relaxing!
